About Northwest Georgia
This fifteen county region in the northwest corner of Georgia is the home to the state’s first inland terminal, a powerful logistics rail gateway to and from the Port of Savannah. Operated by CSX and the Georgia Ports Authority, it will serve as an economic development boon for the state and entire southeast U.S. while removing an estimated 50,000 trucks from local highways each year.
Region 1 is steeped in history, outdoor life and leisure activities. From Gibbs Garden in Ball Ground, historic Berry College in Rome, and Chickamauga National Military Park in Ft. Oglethorpe, to historic Blue Ridge in Fannin County and the Booth Western Museum in Cartersville, this unique area offers abundant business opportunity in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

GDEcD shows off Northwest Georgia to International VIPs
Since 1986, GDEcD has hosted the annual International VIP Tour, introducing members of the Georgia Consular Corps to a different region of the state and the local communities within that region. For 2019, guests traveled to Northwest Georgia to discover the businesses and communities that make up the region, and showcased the collaborative, business-friendly environment, vibrant cultural attractions and passionate citizens that exemplify Georgia.
Innovation where we live: The Importance of Universities in Local Innovation Ecosystems
Georgia’s universities and colleges are a prime resource in building a strong innovation ecosystem throughout our state. Three of Georgia’s great academic institutions, Berry College, Georgia Tech, and Georgia Southern University are fostering our workforce through the creation of programs that develop strong work based skills in students, that not only benefit companies throughout the state, but also fuel a new wave of innovation and local economic development and growth to these regions.
Georgia Logistics Summit
Northwest Georgia has played a crucial role in both Georgia’s manufacturing and vast supply chain industries, so when it came time to choose a location for Georgia’s Logistics Summit, they decided on Cartersville, Georgia. This was the first regionally-focused event in the Georgia Logistics Summit portfolio, bringing top-notch content and discussions about innovative industry best practices. Every region of the state contributes to Georgia’s success in logistics.
